Everyone loves a good “Cinderella story”. You know the tale: the underdog, the rejected, the one not likely to succeed—suddenly their true value and talent is discovered. These are the stories that inspire us at TravisMathew, so we were naturally drawn to Alex Caruso… and we are pleased to announce that he has joined the TravisMathew and Cuater Team!

Professional basketball player Alex Caruso is no stranger to working hard. Now an integral member of the Chicago basketball team and with a professional basketball championship under his belt as a member of the 2020 Los Angeles team, there was a moment when it seemed Alex’s professional career was over before it began.

In college, the Texas A&M star finished as the school’s all-time leader in assists (649) and steals (276), earning a spot on the SEC All-Defensive Team. But after graduation, Alex went undrafted in the 2016 Draft, forcing the point guard to pursue his dream down less traditional paths.

For nearly two years, Alex threw himself into Summer and Developmental Leagues, eventually earning the attention of Oklahoma City and later Los Angeles. Because of his work ethic, versatility, hustle, and ability to make big defensive plays, Alex became the first player to go from the Developmental G League directly to professional basketball by means of a two-way contract.

Signing a player like Alex is everything we could hope for at TravisMathew. His story is one that inspires others to believe in themselves and to go after their dreams, no matter what obstacles or letdowns they experience along the way.

“I’m excited to join the TravisMathew team,” Alex shared with us when we met with him earlier this month. “It’s been a crazy journey to get to this point, but it’s amazing to have supporters like this.”

As a newly minted member of the TravisMathew Team, we had to know what Alex’s favorite TravisMathew and Cuater products are.

“I’m pretty low-key off the court, but I do get a little competitive when it comes to golf,” Alex laughed. “So, naturally I’m inclined to want all the golf gear, like The Moneymaker shoe, The Zinna polo, and literally any pair of TravisMathew shorts or pants—they all have a little stretch, which is great.”

In his everyday life, Alex can be spotted wearing any number of our t-shirts, the Heater Active collection, and unsurprisingly, he’s a fan of our soft Cloud Collection products, as well.

And while Alex may be a fan of our soft fabrics, there’s nothing soft about him on the basketball court. Known for his hustle on defense, Alex’s versatile skills allow him to take on any role that’s needed to help his team win. He gains his competitive edge not just through versatility, but by knowing the game so intimately, he’s able to anticipate his opposition’s moves and shut down their progress.

With such an incredible story, we’re excited to share more about Alex and his journey with you all. Stay tuned!
